"Rio 2" flies to first!

17 Apr - "Rio 2", the sequel to the story of Blu, Jewel and their little bird children from Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon, managed to capture the hearts of audiences in both Malaysia and Singapore for last weekend's box office, 11 to 13 April.

The Dreamworks animation dives in the story where Jewel learns that she wants to go to the Amazon and see if there are any other birds like them. But Blu, who is a city bird, doesn't want to but he decides to go anyway to make Jewel happy.

The film, however, did not resonate to the U.S. as much as it did here, as "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" still grabbed the number one spot last weekend, leaving "Rio 2" at number two.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier", which stood first in both Malaysia and Singapore last weekend, instead fell in second place. Horror themed "Oculus" grabbed the third spot in Malaysia, but Bible favorite "Noah" gained the third spot in Singapore instead, whereas the movie was banned in Malaysia.

"Oculus", starring "Doctor Who" star Karen Gillan, is a story of a woman who tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.

Other new movies that opened in Malaysia last week are "The Most Dangerous Man", "Delete My Love", "Draft Day", "3AM Part 2", "Bhoothnath Returns" and "Naan Sigappu Manithan". Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week are "Praise the Lord", "The Truth About Beauty", "Sabotage", "The Face of Love", "Cuban Fury", "Enemy", "Bhoothnath Returns" and "Naan Sigappu , Manithan".
