Superhero Showdown: Round #1

Who would win in a fight to the finish? We pit some of our fave superheroes against each other, with a quick breakdown on each other’s history and ability. May the best spandex-sporting hero win!

Round 1:Batman vs. Iron-Man
Orphaned-billionaires turned do-gooders. Why stop at giving money to charity and do philanthropy when you can fight off crime yourself?

Batman

Real name: Bruce Wayne

Occupation: Industrialist, Businessman, Philanthropist

Background: After witnessing the murder of his parents, the uber-wealthy Bruce Wayne vows to put a stop to all crime. He travels all over the world, gaining knowledge and skills needed to ward off the bad guys of Gotham City. He takes on the secret identity of Batman, and arms himself with all the fancy, high-tech weapons and gadgets money can buy.

Powers and Abilities: Batman doesn’t have any superpower, per se—unless you count his super sharp detective skills, intellect, and extensive martial arts experience. Not to mention his obese bank account, which could buy possibly anything needed for him to defeat the enemy. He’s already got a massive collection of crime-fighting paraphernalia stowed away in the Batcave, including his Batmobile, Batplane, Bat-sub, Batboat, and Bat-cycle. Plus there’s his butler Alfred Pennyworth, who never fails to stash all sorts of goodies in his Utility Belt.

Iron-Man

Real name: Tony Stark

Occupation:
Inventor, Industrialist

Background: Orphaned when his parents were killed in a car accident, he took over his father’s weapons company, and was captured by terrorists who forced him to build them a weapon of mass destruction. Instead, Stark created a 220,000 pound suit of armor to escape, and ended up using this suit to fight off the baddies.

Powers and Abilities:
Stark’s suit has gotten tons of upgrades over the course of his comic book run—some of which include a 360 degree defensive energy shield, the ability to produce sonic blasts, and 3D hologram projection. Take away the suit and he still has a fighting chance: Captain America taught him a thing or two about hand-to-hand combat. And let’s not forget that, behind that billionaire playboy rep, he’s quite brainy, having finished at MIT with advanced degrees in physics and engineering at the age of 21!

And the winner is: Batman! We’d like to think Tony Stark, equipped with his Iron suit, could crush The Dark Knight—but sometimes, fast-thinkers beat fast-talkers. Plus, Batman once single-handedly killed a bunch of superpowered aliens in order to free his Justice League of America friends. Who’s to say he can’t take out a fellow billionaire playboy in a fancy suit?

Next round: A ring-bearer goes head-to-head with a mind-bender.
