"Switch" wins Worst Movie at Golden Plum Film Poll
14 Apr – While "The Grandmaster" swept the most awards at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards, Andy Lau's 2013 action film, "Switch" won another Worst Film title at the Apple Daily's 9th Golden Plum Film Poll, which is similar to China's Golden Broom Awards and Hollywood's Razzies.
According to a report on HK Top Ten, the movie which is directed by Jay Sun and stars Andy Lau, Zhang Jingchu and Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chiling, won the poll by 44 per cent of the 10,000 votes, beating out other assumingly bad movies, including "Tiny Times" and "Special ID".
Criticised for being superficial and using the star quality of Andy Lau and Zhang Jingju to steer audiences' focus away from the obvious product placements and plot holes, the movie also won Most Rotten Director, Most Rotten Scene, and Most Rotten Chinese Film.
However, Lin Chiling was saved from winning Most Rotten Actress, a title that was instead given to first-time 'winner', TVB actress Kate Tsui for her performance in "I Love Hong Kong 2013", which won her 34 per cent of the votes.
The Most Rotten winners also proved that the cooperation among Hong Kong and mainland Chinese productions are still lacking at some point, since nine out of ten of the biggest votes went to such joint-venture movies.
