"Transformers 4" rules the box office!

1 Jul – There is no doubt that the fourth instalment of the "Transformers" franchise, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" makes for the biggest movie opening weekend of the year as it predictably dominated last weekend's box office chart of 26 to 29 June 2014 for Malaysia, Singapore and U.S.

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" made a strong opening last weekend in U.S with a total gross of USD100 million, which is by far the biggest opening weekend of the year 2014 in North America. The film even surpassed previous record holder, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier's" opening weekend this year which gained USD95 million.

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" also claimed the 13th place in the worldwide weekend openings of all-time rankings with a total gross of USD301.3 million.

The Michael Bay film also broke records by having the biggest opening day gross of all-time in China. Following far behind is the Channing Tatum-Jonah Hill film, "22 Jump Street" which grossed over USD15.8 million leaving a big gap of over USD84 million between the first and second place. Coming in at third place is the animation film sequel, "How To Train Your Dragon 2" with a weekend gross of USD 13.2 million.

Over in Malaysia, breaking the opening records of all-time, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" took over the top spot at the weekend box office chart by mercilessly knocking down "How To Train Your Dragon 2" to second place. Coming in third place is the local horror film, "Pengantin Malam" starring Nora Danish and Farid Kamil.

Similarly, "Transformers" also ruled the weekend box office chart in Singapore, while coming in at second and third place is "The Fault In Our Stars" and "How To Train Your Dragon 2" respectively.

Movies released in Malaysia last week were; "Saivam", "Ek Villain", "The Sacrament", "Evidence" and "Vivaagarathu".

Other new movies that opened in Singapore last week were; "Ek Villain", "Punjab 1984", "Saivam" and "Enna Satham Indha Neram".
