TVB tell-all book writer hurt by Wong Jing's allegations

15 Apr – Ngai Man Ho, the pseudonym used by a former TVB production assistant who recently sparked controversy by publishing a tell-all book about working conditions in TVB, expressed his discontent with Hong Kong director Wong Jing who called him shameless for publishing such a book.

In his writing recently, Wong Jing ridiculed Ngai for saying that his job as a production assistant was hard. The director stated that everybody's work is difficult, and that an assistant's job is the easiest to do in this era.

As reported on HK Channel, after Wong Jing's statement was reported, Ngai turned to his Weibo and said, "An '80s kid like me grew up watching movies made by Wong Jing. I don't mean to criticise, but I do want to give my response."

Ngai said that being able to endure and not wanting to endure it are two different things, adding, "Just because I can endure the sufferings, it doesn't mean that I want to. Why should I go through with it when I have another choice?"

Ngai continued, "We cannot compare generations. I am sure the previous generation suffered more than us. But you can't expect Wong Jing's father complaining to him that he didn't suffer as much as him. If we have to compare, why not go back all the way to the Qin Dynasty!"

The book, titled "TVB's Blood, Tears and Dirt" is not just about the criticisms, said Ngai. "I added in my objective observations. I just wanted to share my experiences. I talked about both good and bad things, though most of them are bad."

When asked if he would return to TVB in the future, Ngai admitted that it would be impossible for him at this point, and added that he only wants to see the company treating their employees better and consider viewers' opinion.
