Wong Cho Lam works hard to win Leanne Li's heart

3 Dec – Though they are engaged to be married, Wong Cho Lam recently revealed that getting the blessings from Leanne Li's parents was the motivation for him to transform his career from a children programme's host to a TV and movie star.

As reported on HK Channel, the actor recently shared his love story with the media, and revealed that winning Leanne parents' heart was not a walk in the park.

"At that time, I was very afraid. Leanne grew up in a protected environment and her mother keeps a constant eye on her. Her family thought that she should date someone like Wang Leehom, and who was I at the time?"

"I was just a host for a children's programme. I was short and not popular, while she was the tall and beautiful - the winner of the Miss Chinese International Pageant. She was also scared because she has been taught to always get the best," he continued.

Wong stated that they broke up a year after they started dating in 2005, and it was the hardest time of his life. They later reconciled in 2009, after realising that they still love each other.

In regard as to why her parents were not very accepting of him, the actor said, "Her parents had never met me before, but they often saw me on TV portraying woman or behaving so wild. They also didn't want her to date someone from showbiz and was worried about the kind of person I am."

Wong said that it took him years to win Leanne's parents' heart, and that he also had to promise not to talk about marriage for three years until he has proven himself.

In the three years that followed, Wong successfully transformed his career. He became a lead actor in TV series and films, has his own variety show, and was even invited by Hunan TV to be a guest performer and judge in the variety show, "Your Face Sounds Familiar". His salary skyrocketed from a mere HKD 300,000 to HKD 3 million, and it was all thanks to his motivation to be with Leanne.

"I worked hard for Leanne, my mum and my family. My dad left us when I was young and my mum took care of me by herself. I hope that my family, Leanne and her family would not be worried. I will let them enjoy life," said Wong.

The couple will be tying the knot in February.
