Wong Kar Wai refuses to reveal the cast for his upcoming movie

1 Jul – Ever since it was reported that "The Grandmaster" director, Wong Kar Wai has found the perfect project for his comeback, rumours after rumours have surfaced about the possible casting of his new movie.

As reported on Xinhua News Agency, the director, who will return with an adaptation of author Zhang Jiajia's short story, "The Ferryman", reportedly plans to cast his constant collaborator Tony Leung in the lead role and South Korean darling and "My Love From the Star" actress, Jun Ji-hyun as the female lead.

Reportedly, Jun, who astounded the director through her performance via the hit drama, did express an interest in the upcoming project, however, her obligation to Choi Dong-hoon's new movie, "Assassin" may cause some scheduling conflict.

It was also alleged that Chinese stars Tang Wei and Wu Xiubo, as well as Hong Kong-based movie star, Takeshi Kaneshiro have been offered to join the production.

Set to begin filming in Nanjing this September, the production reportedly has set aside a massive budget of RMB 150 million (approx. USD 24.1 million), while Tony will be paid RMB 35 million (USD 5.6 million) as the lead actor.

However, when asked to confirm the casting rumours, a spokesperson from the production company, Mei Ah Entertainment stated, "I can only say that the cast are all top stars. But as we are still in negotiations, the announcement can only be made when it's all confirmed."
