Zhang Yimou directs Winter Olympics bid clip

14 Aug – Chinese director Zhang Yimou will be directing a promotional film for China's bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, as reported on Hollywood Reporter.

News of the director's project was revealed recently at China Movie Channel's press conference announcing the Young Director Competition.

Zhang responded to the host's disclosure about his upcoming project and said that it would be a pleasure for him to work with a new talent that can create fresh ideas for the promo - which will look good on a director's resume in the long run when proposing for a blockbuster project. The "Coming Home" director, who was highly praised for his opening and closing ceremonies for the Beijing Olympics back in 2008, will likely be directing the ceremonies again if Beijing, which is making a joint application with the city of Zhangjiakou, wins the right to hold the Games.
