Zhang Yimou doesn't care about awards
23 Apr – Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou said that he has no problem regarding his movie not competing at the Cannes Film Festival despite being selected for a screening at the event.
As reported on CRI, while speaking to the media at the press conference of his new movie, "Coming Home" with stars, Gong Li, Chen Daoming and Zhang Huiwen on 21 April, he stated that his aim in movie-making is never about winning an award.
"I used to participate in various film festivals. And now filming for me is no more about competing in festivals," said Zhang.
However, he added that he feels sorry for his actors for not being able to compete in the actors' categories at the festival despite giving their best performances in his movie.
"They could have competed with any actors," he said.
When asked about his expectations of the box office collections, Zhang said, "I care more about a movie quality than the box office results."
