Zhang Yimou mourns for Ken Takakura

19 Nov – Chinese film director Zhang Yimou recently mourned the loss of Japanese veteran star, Ken Takakura.

According to Mingpao News, the "Coming Home" director recently turned to his Weibo blog and wrote, "Despite not wanting to believe the reality, an old friend has passed away. I can only mourn and wish him to be happy in the heavens."

Takakura had once worked with Zhang Yimou in the movie "Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles", which was released in 2005. The film tells the story of an estranged father who decides to travel to Yunnan in his cancer-stricken son's place to film a traditional item in the local Nuo opera.

The Japanese actor passed away on the morning of 10 November 2014 after suffering from lymphoma.

He was 83.
