Zhao Wei triumphs over Wong Kar Wai
29 Sep – Zhao Wei recently expressed her happiness for the honour of receiving the Best Director accolade at the 32nd Hundred Flowers Awards, HK Top Ten reported.
The first-time director, who triumphed over movie juggernauts such as Peter Chan and Wong Kar Wai for her work on the 2013 movie "So Young", said that she was initially surprised when her name was called.
"Both Peter Chan and Wong Kar Wai are directors that I respect very much. The Hundred Flowers has always liked me, and I want to thank all the viewers who also share the same love for me," said Zhao.
Zhao also teased her good friend, Huang Xiaoming, who won Best Actor for his role in "American Dreams in China", saying, "He used to be so old-fashioned, but he's a god now!"
Though this is the first time Zhao Wei wins Best Director, she has won another accolade before for her performance in "Mulan" back in 2010.
